What to Expect - Week #1, Season 23
For Week #1 of the 2019 FACSAP Summer Harvest, we anticipate the following this Thursday:
BLENHEIM ORGANIC GARDENS – Lawrence and Becky Latané
Rainbow Chard bunches
Tuscan Kale bunches
Elephant Garlic
Salad Mix
Heirloom Mint bunches
As far as I can tell, heat has ruined our turnips (which are usually very dependable) and I need to give the Tuscan Kale time to regenerate after this week's harvest which will completely strip the plants to remove leaves damaged by cabbage moths.
Next week, we expect to have beautiful Napa cabbage and new red potatoes.
Thanks,
Lawrence
GREEN THUMB GROWERS – Tom Miller
No harvest this week.
Anticipating our first harvest within the next couple of weeks!
DOWNTOWN GREENS YOUTH FARM PROGRAM – Jennifer Gron
Fresh herb bundles, mostly Oregano and some Thyme.
HARTLAND NATURAL FARM – Jamie Whitaker
Curly Kale
Lacinato Kale
Basil
GUERRA FARM – José Antonio Guerra Martinez
No harvest this week.
Everything is growing well and I anticipate bringing my first harvest within a couple of weeks. The weather has been ideal so far this year. The tomatoes are already knee-high. I have planted 1,000 watermelon plants and am anticipating a good harvest this year, God-willing.
ROCK RUN CREEK FARM – Francis Ngoh
Oyster Mushrooms
CARDINAL APIARIES – Pete Burt
No harvest this week - Honey coming soon!
FOLK CITY SOAP – Heidi Lewis
I have ordered the supplies for this year’s soap bars, to be made especially for FACSAP members later in the season. There will be a choice of Litsea or Lavender bars this year.
TERRA STONE GREENS – Caroline Nicotera
Microgreens harvest will begin next week, and we will deliver every other week throughout the 20-week FACSAP Summer Harvest season.
Microgreens Side Shares will be also available for FACSAP members who would like extra Microgreens. Details coming soon!
Golden Acres Orchard – John Thomson & Mrs. Scottie Thomson
APPLE JUICE & APPLE CIDER VINEGAR SHARES NOW AVAILABLE – Sign up this Thursday during the harvest pick-up.
My Dear Friends,
Thank you for the support you have shown our apple orchard over the years.
I realize that lining-up orders, getting money together, and arraigning pickups is a very time-consuming job, and that you do it at no charge.
We lost one of our main distributors of our apple juice last year, and we have had to switch gears rather fast to make up for that.
You came to our rescue last fall with orders for apple juice and apples, and have been a big help with subsequent orders.
Another crop of apples is on the way. The weather, so far, has been good. Last year, we had over twice our average yearly rainfall, but that was too wet. I killed the last mosquito in my room in the month of January!
We are currently well-stocked with our glass-bottled apple juice, and can supply any summer or fall interest. Our pick-up truck is road-worthy and I am glad to be using it to reduce the distance between here and Fredericksburg for the rendezvous.
I love how you are able to organize yourselves. I has been a pleasure to meet you.
Sincerely,
John Thomson
