What to Expect - Week #20, Season 22
For Week #20, the final delivery for the 2018 FACSAP Summer Harvest, we anticipate the following this Thursday, October 25:
DOWNTOWN GREENS YOUTH FARM PROGRAM – Jennifer Gron
Downtown Greens will deliver whatever is still available in the garden as we are closing out for this growing season. I expect it to be (dependent upon the temperatures we sink to overnight tonight): hot peppers, lemongrass, eggplant, basil, and bitter melons.
HARTLAND NATURAL FARM – Jamie Whitaker
Bean Share: an assortment of green beans, yellow wax beans, lima beans and others
Fall Greens Share: an assortment including collards and kale
Selection of Salad Mix, Lettuce or Arugula
Green Onions
Mild Peppers
ROCK RUN CREEK FARM – Francis Ngoh
Shiitake Mushrooms
GOLDEN ACRES ORCHARD – John Thomson
Apple Cider Vinegar
Possibly some Apples (see message below)
Things are still nip-and-tuck here with the harvest. Just as of Monday, we have vinegar. I have not set-up the bottler for it, but can do that in a couple of hours. I tested it, tasted it, and it is good. As of now, I have not had a chance to get the grading machinery going. We might have a few Winesaps. They are genetically smallish apples. We do have some Golden Delicious but they have suffered from the damp summer. I might just hold them here for the few customers we have who make apple sauce, because they look so bad. The main variety this year will be the Yorks, but they are not ready to pick. We will have plenty of those. I hold them on the trees until they get sweet. I am doubtful I can have any apples ready by Thursday morning. Sorry. I’ll let you know if that changes by tomorrow evening (Wednesday evening). We still have plenty of apple juice. I do have help, maybe more help than apples for a change, this year. I’ll give you more information as I ready the machinery.
Thanks for your support.
