What to Expect - Week #17 Season 24

For Week #17, October 1st, of the 2020 FACSAP Summer Harvest, we anticipate the following this Thursday: 

 

BLENHEIM ORGANIC GARDENS – Lawrence & Becky Latané

  • Sweet Potatoes

  • Harvest Treasure Chest Item: Elephant Garlic*

ROCK RUN CREEK FARM – Francis Ngoh

  • Mung Bean Sprouts

  • Fingerling Potatoes

  • Harvest Treasure Chest Items: Shiitake Mushrooms and Hot Peppers (Jalapeno or Cayenne)*

Available for direct purchase outside this week’s Share, Francis will have:

Shiitake Mushrooms  $12 per pound

Okra $5 per bag

Other produce (extra fingerlings, extra hot peppers, etc., based on availability on Thursday)

 

Pre-order by Thursday 11 a.m. recommended.

GREEN THUMB GROWERS – Tom Miller

  • Harvest Treasure Chest Items: Winter Squash – Butternut, Seminole or Acorn*

HARTLAND NATURAL FARM – Esteban Cabrera, Matz Groschel & Amir Davis

  • Cuban Hot Peppers (mildly hot, excellent flavor, much-prized peppers)

  • Harvest Treasure Chest Items: Green Beans and Green Onions*

Large Shares receive 4 of these items and Small Shares receive 2 of these items: 

  • Elephant Garlic from Blenheim

  • Butternut, Seminole or Acorn Squash from Green Thumb Growers

  • Shiitake Mushrooms or Hot Peppers (Jalapeno & Cayenne) from Rock Run Creek

  • Green Beans or Green Onions from Hartland

GUERRA GARDEN – José Antonio Guerra

I will not have a harvest delivery this week. I anticipate having sweet peppers ready for harvesting next week.

 

BLASQUEZ GARDENS – Christien Conniff

I will not have a harvest this week... cherry tomatoes are growing but they have slowed down production.

Pastured, organically-produced, soy-free, hand-gathered Chicken Eggs  $8 per dozen.


Egg production has decreased as usual this time of year, and I will not have surplus eggs for direct purchase this week or for the rest of the season. Egg Shares will be distributed as usual.

Prepared baked goods, jams and jellies made from organic ingredients!

  • Organic Pepper Jelly, Basil Jelly and Rosemary Jelly available this Thursday!

4-ounce jar $6

8-ounce jar  $9

Pepper Jelly Ingredients: organic white cane sugar, organic apple cider vinegar, organic peppers, organic habaneros and jalapenos, and pectin.

Basil & Rosemary Jelly Ingredients: organic homegrown basil or rosemary that I am growing in pots on my back deck in organic soil, organic sugar, and organic white wine vinegar.

  • Organic Pumpkin Bread Loaves Available this Thursday!

Small loaves of pumpkin bread with Einkorn flour and Coconut sugar. 7x3 is the size pan I will be using and the pan will be made from ecofriendly paper and holds roughly 1-lb of cake/bread.

 

Ingredients: organic Einkorn flour, organic coconut sugar or organic Sucanat, organic coconut oil, organic fresh pumpkin puree, organic eggs, non-GMO walnuts, organic raisins, organic cinnamon, organic cloves, organic ginger, non-GMO baking powder, sea salt.

 

$8 per loaf

The pumpkin bread needs to be pre-ordered by Wednesday afternoon, 4pm.

GOLDEN ACRES ORCHARD – John Thomson & Mrs. Scottie Thomson

     We look forward to delivering another Apple Juice Share in late October, along with the apple harvest for FACSAP members. 

     Please return your clean glass gallon jugs if you have saved them from last year.

Apple Harvest Update: We should have Golden Delicious, York, and Jonathans. Not sure about the other varieties until I mow the orchard. Plenty of apple juice is available and should have some vinegar but have not yet bottled it.
